Bingo loyalty schemes work in two main ways, many sites will try to give away as many benefits as possible for players that repeatedly deposit and play with them.
Do points mean prizes?
Firstly there are loyalty points. The terminology surrounding these can be a little confusing - especially for beginner players - but loyalty points are also often referred to a comp points, although occasionally they’re given branded names made up entirely by the site in question. 32 Red, for example give out Red Rubies – but the principle is the same in each and every case: Loyalty points are awarded to you every time you hand over cash at your bingo site, so every time you buy tickets you’ll gather a few more points.
A typical rate at which you’re awarded points is 1 point for every 10p ticket you buy, though obviously the points mean nothing without some sort of monetary exchange rate once you’ve built up enough points to get a tangible reward. A typical rate would be something like £1 in player credit for every 1,000 points that you accumulate, so that would mean you’d have to purchase 1,000 tickets at 10p each to get a £1 reward, which would cost you £100.
Secondly, however, there are loyalty schemes offered by many bingo sites as well, and these are a little different: As you wager more and more at your chosen bingo site, a loyalty scheme will reward you by looking at how much you’ve spent and giving you a status level. These are typically denoted as bronze, silver and gold – perhaps with one of two other precious metals on top, though sites can go with more adventurous names if they wish. The names are largely irrelevant – it’s the benefits that matter.
To welcome you to the loyalty scheme and encourage you to climb up the various rungs that they offer, many sites will start you off by automatically giving you membership of the bottom rung – and you may find that even though you’re a new player they refer to the category as part of their VIP bingo scheme, which in essence is the same thing as a loyalty scheme– again, it’s just different terminology, but many players like to be thought of as VIP players right from the beginning, so it’s easy to see why the term is so popular.
Each tier of a loyalty scheme will come with a set of benefits, often displayed visually via a matrix so that you can see what you’ll be eligible for when you get to the next level:
Firstly, as you make your way up through the ranks you’ll almost certainly be offered more deposit bonuses: Whilst new players tend to get a bonus on their first deposit only, players further up the VIP ladder can get deposit bonuses often every time they deposit, making – in percentage terms - for potential annual bonuses in the thousands.
You’ll also almost always get enhanced conversion rates for your loyalty points, so instead of getting £1 for every 1,000 points accrued you might get £1.50 for reaching the Silver level, and the rates will improve as you go higher up the scheme ladder.
Otherwise, loyalty schemes can have all sorts of interesting benefits: Some will give their higher-level players their own personal account manager; others will offer exclusive treats like trips to top sporting events, spa days and other goodies.
Beware of terms and conditions
You’ll need to keep a close eye on the conditions that your rewards come with, as sometimes you’re given cash that you’re actually allowed to withdraw, though generally you’re given player credit instead. However, as you’ve gone to the expense and trouble of buying enough ticket to earn your reward, there won’t usually be any kind of playthrough requirement associated with your £1 reward- phew!
If you’re planning on spending lots of time at the same site, then it’s worthwhile checking out how well they treat their loyal players: Once you’ve been at the same site for a while you could be in for some very nice surprises…
